Although we live on a private area, all homes/tenants are still required to follow all City of Ottawa By-laws. The complete listing of Ottawa By-laws can be found on the city of Ottawa website, located here:
Common Rules/By-laws to be reminded of:
The following rules and by-laws are the most common complaints/concerns that are received from fellow tenants.
Street parking:
All streets or privates are zoned for no-parking on the street/private. This is due to the narrowness of the street and to ensure emergency vehicles can make easy access and regress if needed.
Locked/blocked entrances to backyards:
As per section C, point 4 of the Co-tenancy agreement, all tenants must be able to access their backyard. If a fence is locked from the inside, the tenant wishing to cross is fully entitled to call the city of Ottawa (311) and have them remove/destroy the lock at the owners expense.
Dog's business on lawns:
When walking your dog, please pick up after it when it has finished it's business on someone's lawn. This is a city of Ottawa by-law!
Owners are responsible for their own yard and lawn maintenance:
Ottawa by-laws provide for minimum care requirements of lawns and yard. This includes regular mowing of lawns in front and rear, removal of garbage, repairs and renovations as needed where unsightly.
